Exploring Great Genres Summer Reading Program
The Exploring Great Genres Summer Reading Program (EGGS reading program) was designed for more advanced elementary readers. Recognizing that a number of elementary students would read throughout the summer without any particular incentive program, this was designed to encourage such children to expand their own reading habits with a variety of genres. Students will be encouraged to read from a number of different genres, including information text and biography, realistic fiction, poetry, historical fiction, fantasy and folklore, and graphic novels. For each book they read, participants could write a review for the library’s blog and will receive a number of different prizes depending on their reading variety. By thinking outside the box, I created this particular program that recognizes that not all readers have the same needs during the summer. Some need to be challenged or to stretch their habits, and the EGGS reading program will ask them to do just that.
